iphone is all buzz in India for its debut via Vodaphone and Airtel. Out of 195 countries in the world, 70 countries will get the iPhone 3G including India.

However, this iPhone 3G will cost Rs 20,000 in India - the costliest in the world. Before we get to factors for such high price of iphone in India, here is iphone prices in other countries of the world.

• iPhone 3G will be free in UK as it is subsidised by O2.
• It costs 1 Euro (Rs 70) in Germany, subsidised by T-mobile.
• In USA, it costs US$ 199 (Rs 8,557).
• In Hong Kong, Singapore it costs US$ 350 (Rs 15,050).

And in India it will probably cost Rs 20,000 a piece. In India Airtel and Vodafone is not in position to subsidise the handset like AT&T does.

“… US could afford to sell it cheap as the billing cycle is expected to make up for the cost” as explained by Mandeep Bhatia COO, Airtel.

He further added, “… getting into a contractual agreement (two years in the US) is difficult here, as people tend to default on payments and recovery is difficult”.
