Well, this can be easily avoided now. To get freedom from irritating Telemarketers register for Do not Call service. The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. 

You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years. Following are the online links of various telecom providers and Banks and Credit Card Companies to activate Do Not Call:

The primary objective of the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNC Registry) is to curb Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). UCC has been defined as:

any message, through telecommunications service, which is transmitted for the purpose of informing about,or soliciting or promoting any commercial transaction in relation to goods, investments or services which a subscriber opts not to receive…

Do not call will be activated within period of 45 days from the day your register for the same. In case you still receive a tele-marketing call after 45 days contact Customer care of respective service provider and file a complaint.
