Vista to Windows7 upgrade, free or not ?

 ADVERTISEMENTS

All Windows Vista users looking for free Windows7 upgrade, here is good and bad news. Yes, Windows Vista users will be eligible for FREE Windows7 upgrade but only limited users. Here are few possible features of upcoming ‘Vista to Windows7′ upgrade process.

Preinstalled Windows Vista PCs purchased from July 01, 2009 to ‘yet to be announced date’ will be eligible for Windows7 upgrade. Also, OEMs may choose shorter date range for eligible upgrade within the allowed date range. System eligible for upgrade include: Windows Vista Home Premium, business and ultimate. Valid upgrade paths are:

  • Vista Home Premium TO Windows7 Home Premium
  • Vista Business TO Windows7 Professional
  • Vista Ultimate TO Windows7 Ultimate

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, starter edition and Windows XP (all editions) are NOT eligible for the upgrade. Also, an OEM may altogether dump upgrade plans and not offer them at all. It all depends on OEM and of course Microsoft. Looks like usual messy upgrade terms and conditions in making. sources ZDNet & TechARP.
