Recently, a workaround to watch high quality Youtube videos was discovered. That involved adding &fmt=6to the usual URL of Youtube Video [Details here].
Also, videos with available High quality version will have link at the bottom of video box. You can click on that link to watch better quality version of the video. These two methods of accessing better version of Youtube Videos are manual and requires some effort.
You can easily automate this process by configuring ‘Video Playback Quality’ settings in your Youtube account. You can choose the playback quality of the videos you watch, the default is to let YouTube choose.
If you’re always on either a slow or fast connection, you may want to choose the setting which corresponds to your usual speed. You can chose either of 3 options available:
- Choose video quality dynamically based on current speed.
- I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video.
- I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it’s available.
