Orkut does not need any introduction atleast if you are in India or Brazil. This cutie of thousands of people has turned 4 yrs old (or young).
Orkut was launched 2/5ths of a decade ago. Since then it has grown pretty fast, with many more features, communities, friends, photos and since it first opened as an invite-only community.
Recently lots of new features and buzz came around with Orkut. Google is taking good care of this little baby. Year 2007 started with bang as Orkut was voted MTV Youth Icon of 2007. This clearly indicate love for Orkut from thousands of users in India.

After new privacy options and ability to search Orkut profiles using Google search here comes another new feature for Orkut users. Now you can arrange your photos in different photo albums in your Orkut Profile.
Since now 100 photos can be added in an account, uploading all of them together does not lead to good browsing experience. Instead you can create photo albums for specific events or occasions and upload photos accordingly.

Google is doing some experiments with Orkut Privacy feature to “Search Orkut Profiles using Google Search”. Now your Orkut profile will be indexed by Google Search engine and will appear in results as ‘Orkut One Box’. A OneBox is a summary of your orkut profile, including key details like your name, photo and location.

Your information now public? Well not to worry, you have option to opt out of the search results and keep your profile ’safe and secure’. Also, profiles wont appear in search results if you are logged into Orkut account. Getting all confused??? Well, this should clear things out…

It seems Orkut is working really hard to get new features on board. So, after complete design makeover, here comes another feature. On your Orkut profile page, you will get list of all the updates from all your Orkut friends. What kind of updates?
Well, this should include everything like: adding new photos, adding new videos, profile updation, new testimonial and much more. Besides the functional importance of this feature, it also profile profile page a complete look. Remember that empty space at the bottom part of middle column!

In case you do not want to share updates with your friends, you can easily turn OFF this feature. Following is the procedure:

Now you can access orkut in 5 regional languages: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. Orkut may not have come over issues like: fake profiles, terrorist activity, hate groups, servers down etc etc etc, But, it did manage to win MTV Youth Icon 2007 Award.
